Jesus Is Calling, But Now What?
When Jesus is Calling, Here’s How to Answer Without Panic:
We’ve all heard it: that stirring in your heart during worship, the conviction while reading Scripture, the divine nudge in a quiet moment. You know it’s Him. Jesus is calling. But once you realize that the King of Kings has extended an invitation to you, now what?
Courage Isn’t the Absence of Fear
“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” —1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NIV)
For many believers, especially those new in their faith or stepping into something unknown, that holy calling can feel both exciting and terrifying. You feel honored, maybe even empowered, but also a little unqualified and unsure. It’s like answering a call you’ve waited your whole life to receive, only to stammer, “Uh, hello?” into the spiritual phone.
So, what do you do when Jesus is calling?
Don’t Hang Up
When you sense Jesus calling, your initial response might be to question it or retreat. “Surely, He’s got the wrong person,” you might think. Moses felt the same way. In Exodus 3, God called him to lead His people out of Egypt, and Moses’ immediate response was to highlight his inadequacies:
“Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh…?” (Exodus 3:11)
But here’s the thing, God didn’t choose Moses because he was eloquent or confident. He picked him because He wanted to show His power through him.
When Jesus calls, don’t hang up. Stay on the line. Lean in. Even if you feel unprepared, trust that He is not.
Get into the Word
Once you say “yes” to Jesus, the next step isn’t jumping into action; it’s deepening your foundation. God’s Word is your compass. It gives you clarity, comfort, and courage.
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
When you’re unsure of your next step, the Bible won’t always give you a five-year plan, but it will reveal God’s character, your identity in Christ, and the wisdom needed for each step.
Set aside intentional time to read the Word, not out of obligation, but out of need. Let God’s truth sink deep into your soul so that when He speaks again, your spirit is already familiar with His voice.
Talk to Him (Even If You’re Feeling Anxious)
Let’s be real, God already knows your heart. If you’re scared, say so. If you’re confused, ask questions. If you’re excited, tell Him! Jesus didn’t call you to perform; He called you into relationship.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6-7
Prayer is how we process the call with the One who gave it. So, cry, rejoice, vent, and listen. He can handle your honesty. He welcomes it.
Look for Confirmation, Not Control
Sometimes when Jesus calls, we want every detail mapped out. We want guarantees, timelines, and neon signs that say, “Turn here.” But faith doesn’t work like that.
Instead of trying to control the journey, ask for confirmation. God often confirms His direction through Scripture, wise counsel, circumstances, or that persistent stirring in your heart.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Your job isn’t to chart the course; it’s to follow the One who already has.
Obey One Step at a Time
You don’t need to have the entire plan to move forward. Most of the time, Jesus only reveals the next step.
Abraham was called to go “to the land I will show you” (Genesis 12:1)
He packed up and went, not knowing where, but trusting who.
What’s your next step? Is it joining that ministry, writing your book, starting a blog, forgiving someone, or sharing your testimony?
Whatever it is, take that step in obedience. Small obedience leads to big moves of God.
Final Thoughts
Jesus is calling. That’s not just poetic, it’s personal. He’s calling you to more than a moment of faith; He’s calling you into a journey of trust, growth, and transformation.
You may not feel ready. You may not have it all figured out. But that’s okay. Jesus isn’t asking you to be perfect. He’s asking you to follow.
Now, let’s take a deep breath. Pick up the phone. And say, “Yes, Lord!”
Because when Jesus calls, the answer is always worth it.
